Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union proudly announces that Hazen Union School principal Dr. Jason Di Giulio has been selected as the 2025 Vermont High School Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Dr. Di Giulio, who joined Hazen Union in 2020, brings an exceptional background to his leadership role, including service as a commissioned Army officer, teaching experience at both the high school and college levels, a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry, and a Doctorate in Education.
This distinctive combination of military leadership, classroom experience, advanced educational research and creative arts background has informed his innovative approach to education. Under Dr. Di Giulio’s visionary leadership, Hazen Union has become a model for the community schools approach in rural Vermont. He has been instrumental in forging strategic partnerships with local organizations and higher education institutions while expanding student access to health services, mental health supports, and family engagement initiatives. These efforts have transformed Hazen Union into a vital community hub that addresses the holistic needs of students and families.
"This recognition is not just about me—it’s about the incredible students, educators, families, and community members who make Hazen Union a thriving community of learning and support. As a community school, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom; our school is a hub where students are not only challenged academically but supported as whole people. This honor is a testament to the power of collaboration and the belief that when a community comes together, we create meaningful opportunities for every student. I’m proud to be part of a school that values connection, innovation, and the success of all learners."
Superintendent Dr. David Baker emphasized the significance of this achievement:
"This well-deserved honor reflects Jason’s unwavering commitment to educational excellence. During our three years working together, I’ve consistently seen him innovate to enhance educational opportunities for students at Hazen. His valuable contributions to our administrative team have earned him the respect of his colleagues across the district.”
The Vermont Principals Association will formally recognize Dr. Di Giulio, alongside other distinguished Vermont principals at their Leadership Academy awards banquet on August 5, 2025. Additionally, as Vermont’s representative, he will be celebrated at the NASSP State Principals of the Year event, Illuminate 2025, in Seattle this July.
