College Alumni to Visit:   Recent Hazen graduates who are enrolled in college will visit Hazen on Wednesday, January 7, during TA and Support Block to meet with interested Seniors and Juniors to discuss their college experience and answer questions.  Juniors must sign up in the Guidance Office today, Monday, January 5, to be eligible to attend.  
Ski and Ride Trip this Week:  Member of the Ski and Ride program that plan to attend the first trip on Friday, January 9, must sign up outside of Ms. Foster's room before  2:45 PM on Wednesday, January 7.  The following are important reminders for skiers and riders:  Students must have at least 70% in all classes to be eligible to attend; Middle school students MUST eat first lunch and be prepared to board the bus at 11:30 AM;  All gear MUST be in the lobby by 10 AM;  All skiers and riders MUST wear a helmet;  The trip will return to Hazen at 5 to 5:15 PM.
After-School Programs this Week:  There are lots of activities for students at Hazen, so check it out and get involved!  The Chess Club will meet on Tuesday, from 2:45 to 3:45 PM in Mr. Lockhart's room.  Zumba Dance  Club will meet on Wednesday, from 2:45 to 3:45 PM in the Cafeteria;Juggling will meet on Thursday, 2:45 to 3:45 PM in the Cafeteria;  Art Club will meet on Friday, from 2:45 to 3:45 PM and the Swim Club will also meet this Friday.  Students planning to go on the Swim Club trip this week must sign up in advance with Mike Clark before Friday.

December Recess:  Parents and students are reminded that school will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, January 2, 2015. School will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2015.  Have a safe and joyous break!
Alumni College Visit:  Hazen alumni who are currently attending college will visit Hazen on Wednesday, January 7, to meet with members of the senior and junior classes during TA and Support Block.  The alumni will discuss their college experience and answer questions in a panel format.  Interested seniors and juniors should sign up in the Guidance Office on Monday, January 5.
Community Service Opportunity:  Any senior interested in earning community service hours by helping with snow removal should see Mrs. Quinn for contact information.

Student Picks Winners!  The Hazen Library would like to thank Windsor Fairbank and Lizzy Cook for the book suggestions they contributed to the Staff and Student Picks program this autumn.  Lizzy and Windsor will each receive a $20 gift certificated from the Galazy Bookshop.  Congratulations, Lizzy and Windsor, visit the Library today to claim your prize!  
Also....all students and staff are invited to come to the Library to see other books that staff and students have been suggesting, and anyone who would like to enter the next prize drawing should submit their recommendations in the Library.  Don't forget to check out a good book to curl up with during the break!

Concert and Art Show Congratulations!  Congratulations to the Hazen Music Department for a spectacular Winter Concert!  Mr. Craig, Associate Principal, states that he was "blown away" by the talent and professionalism of Hazen students as was Mr. Moriarty and everyone in attendance!  The Art Show was also a stunning display of Wildcat talent.  An AWESOME JOB WELL DONE and THANK YOU to all the students and teachers involved in this annual event.
Library Book Fair:  Today, Thursday, is the last day for the Hazen Library Book Fair.  There are still lots of great books available for your holiday shopping so please stop by.
Student Council Meeting:  The Hazen Student Council will meet today, Thursday, December 18, at 1:30 PM in Mr. Modry's room.  Items on the agenda include planning the Winter Carnival, so all members should attend.  
Social and Racial Justice Group:  HUS is forming a Social and Racial Justice Group with the assistance of Rachel Wilson.  Interested students can come to the Library today, Thursday, December 18, from 2:45 to 3:45 PM for the first meeting.

Winter Concert and Art Show TODAY!  The Hazen Music Department is proud to announce its Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 17, at 6:30 PM in the Hazen Auditorium.  Both high school and middle school band and chorus members will perform due to the cancellation of the Middle School Concert last week. The Hazen Art Department will display the works of our many talented students in the Library for your viewing before or after the concert or during intermission.  All members of the Hazen community are invited for this special evening that showcases the many talents of our students.  Admission is free, but donations to the music department are always appreciated. 
Library Closing:  Teachers and students are reminded that the Library will close today at 2:10 PM to allow for the set up for the Art Show.  Please plan accordingly.

Health Fair Today!  Hazen School Nurse, Linda Romans, and Student Assistance Program Director, Mike Clark, are sponsoring a Health Fair for all students and staff today, Tuesday, December 16, from 11 AM to 2 PM in the Hazen Gym.  Teachers are invited to bring their classes to the gym to meet will vendors and guests representing resources available in the Hardwick / Lamoille Valley area.  
Library Book Fair:  The Hazen Library Book Fair opens today, December 16, and will run through December 18.  There are lots of great books available for your holiday shopping so please stop by.

Last Call for Donations:  Teachers and staff are asked to bring any donations for the Mitten Tree, Food Drive or Children's Toy Project to the front lobby as soon as possible on Monday.  The items will be delivered today to the appropriate agencies. 
Key Club and National Honor Society:  The Hazen Key Club and Hazen National Honor Society will meet today, Monday, during lunch in Mike Clark's room.

Lights...Camera...Action!!  Hardwick Community Television (Comcast Channel 16) is offering a basic introduction to camera equipment and editing equipment use for the public on December 16 and 17 from 6 to 8 PM.  HCTV is looking to encourage students 16 or older to get involved and take advantage of this opportunity to learn a new skill.  Our Public Access Station is located in the Top Floor of the Memorial Building.  If you have questions or want to sign up, contact Leif at the HCTV station, 472-6655 or hardwicktv@comcast.net.

After School Activities CANCELLED!  The Girls Varsity and JV Basketball games scheduled for this evening are CANCELLED.  All other sports practices and activities are also cancelled.
Early Release Day for Teacher Workday:  Students will be released at 11:30 AM today, Wednesday, December 10, for a teacher workday.  
Winter Concert this Week!  You will want to mark your calendar and save time for the Hazen Music Department Winter Concerts.  The Middle School Band and Chorus will perform on Thursday, December 11, at 7 PM in the auditorium.  The High School Band and Chorus will perform at 7 PM on Wednesday, December 17.  The Hazen Art Department will showcase the work of our talented students in an Art Show in the Hazen Library on December 17.  
The Season of Giving:  The Hazen Key Club and National Honor Society are joining forces to help those who are less fortunate during the holiday season.  Boxes have been placed in the front lobby to collect your donations for the WCAX Mitten Tree Project, Hardwick Childrens Holiday Project, and the Holiday Food Drive to support the local food pantry. The last day to bring your donations is Friday, December 12.
Harwick Children's Holiday Project:  Student volunteers are needed to help with the annual Children's Holiday Project to help give out toys to deserving families on Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13.  Community service credit is available as well as a chance to experience the true meaning of the season.  Call Mary Wheeler, 472-3843, or see Katie Braddee to sign up.
Special Assembly:  Milton High School senior, Victoria LaRen, will visit Hazen on Friday, December 12.  Victoria will meet with groups of students in the auditorium to discuss the use of the word "retard".  She will meet with grade 8 students from 12:15-12:45; high school students from 1:15-1:45; and grade 7 students from 2 to 2:30 PM.
