A La Carte items now available in the Hazen Cafeteria!  The Hazen Cafeteria will soon be offering some entrees, healthy snack items and beverages for purchase individually.  A la carte items will be cash sales only or paid for by funds on student account......students may not charge a la carte items.  
Winter Carnival!  Hazen will celebrate Winter Carnival on Friday, February 24!  There will be games, competitions, and activities galore!  Details to follow!
Winter Recess:   School will be closed for Winter Recess and Town Meeting Day from February 27 to March 7, 2017.  Classes will resume on March 8.  
Summer 20017 Chinese Cultural Camp.. BECOME A HOST FAMILY OR STUDENT AMBASSADOR!!  The Chinese Cultural Camp is being held in Hardwick this summer and we are looking for host families.  This is a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange.  Chinese students will be here for approximately 11 days.  Exact dates will be known in the next month, but the 11 days will happen during a three week window:  July 20- Aug. 10th.  There is a stipend for hosting and the program is a ton of fun!! Please contact Anna Crytzer if you're interested:  acrytzer@ossu.org or 802-525-4292.   
Students!  Are you interested in making international friends?  Does it sound like fun to spend a week and a half getting to know students from China?  If so.....check out our student ambassador program for the 2017 Chinese Cultural Camp.  The camp will be held at Hazen for 8 or 9 days near the end of July or beginning of August (official dates to come soon).  As a student ambassador you would get to come to the program daily, make friends with high school students from China, go on field trips, and earn community service hours.  This is a really fun program!  If you're interested, please see Anna Crytzer or Anja Pfeffer.  

New Student Parking Permits for 2016-17!  Attention student drivers!  Students who drive to school and park in the Hazen parking lot each day should register their vehicle in the Principal's Office and display a Student Parking Pass.  The Parking Pass is free!  See Mrs. Quinn in the Principal's Office for a form.

Valentine's Day Raffle and Carnation Sale!    There is still time to buy tickets for the Junior Class GIANT Teddy Bear or Valentine's Day chocolate filled heart raffle!  Tickets are 2 for $1 and the lucky winners will be drawn at the end of the school day today!  The Juniors are also selling Valentine's Day carnations today! Looking for a way to remember someone special or say thanks to your BFF?? Carnations are only $2!!  

Black History Month Film:  The PBS documentary, "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" will be shown at Hazen on Wednesday, February 15, at 3 PM in the cafeteria.  Sponsored by the Craftsbury Art House, the film will last about one hour with a discussion to follow.  There is no charge to attend and there will be free refreshments.

Debate Tournament at Hazen on Saturday:  The Hazen Debate Team will host a Novice Debate Team Tournament on Saturday, February 11, 2017.  Teams from other schools in Vermont will visit Hazen for a day of competition.

Ski and Ride 2017!  The next weekly Ski and Ride Trip program trip to Stowe is scheduled for Wednesday, January 25.  Students participating in the program are reminded that all gear must be in the Hazen lobby by 10 AM to be picked up by the ski truck...no skis or snowboards are allowed on the bus.  Remember!  All skiers and riders MUST wear a helmet.  Middle and High School students must eat 1st lunch and be in the lobby ready to board the bus at 11:45 AM.  The bus returning to Hazen from Stowe will depart at 4:00 PM.      

Chess Club returns in January!  The Hazen Chess Club will begin weekly after school meetings on Tuesdays.  All skill levels are welcome so come challenge yourself!  Students with questions can see Mr. Lockhart, Chess Club Advisor.

February Teacher Work Days:  Students will be released at 11:35 AM on Thursday, February 2, 2017 to allow teachers to participate in professional development.  School will be closed for students on Friday, February 3, 2017.

The Boys JV Basketball game scheduled for tonight, Tuesday, January 17, at Northfield is CANCELLED.   
Community Documentary Film-  The Hazen Technology Department will present a second viewing opportunity of the documentary film, "Screenagers" in the Hazen Auditorium at 6 PM on Wednesday, January 18.  This important and relevant film for parents and students is free and open to the public.

Ski and Ride 2017 Starts TODAY!  The first Ski and Trip program trip to Stowe is scheduled for today Wednesday, January 11.  Students participating in the program are reminded that all gear must be in the Hazen lobby by 10 AM to be picked up by the ski truck...no skis or snowboards are allowed on the bus.  Remember!  All skiers and riders MUST wear a helmet.  Middle and High School students must eat 1st lunch and be in the lobby ready to board the bus at 11:45 AM.  The bus returning to Hazen from Stowe will depart at 4:00 PM.      

Dual Enrollment Workshop for High School Parents and Students:  The Hazen Guidance Department will sponsor a workshop on Dual Enrollment - High School and College for parents and high school students who may be interested in attending and earning college credit during their senior year.  The workshop will be held in the Hazen Library on Thursday, January 12, from 5 to 6 PM.  

Martin Luther King Day Observed-  School will be closed for students on Monday, January 16, in observance of Martin Luther King Day.  There will be a Teacher Work Day on that day.  

Governor's Institute of Vermont Winter Weekend Offerings!  The GIV Winter Weekend offerings for 2017 are exciting and varied to meet almost every interest....including Law and Animals, Intermediate Robotics, Architecture Invention, Vocal Performance and Performing and Writing Comedy!  The registration deadline is January 16.  See Mr. Miller in Guidance for information on how to apply.

Drama Club Auditions:  The Hazen Drama Club will hold auditions on Tuesday, January 10, for the One-Act Festival.  Auditions are open to all high school and interested middle school students, however, priority is given to high school students.  This year's production will be an adaptation of Karen Hensse's "Witness".  Pickup audition materials and details from Mr. Considine before Tuesday.
